Around this time of year there’s a lot of talk about magic. The magic of Christmas. Twinkling lights and candles. Elves and talking snowmen.
I was thinking about this while writing in my favorite cafe. There’s something about this place: the neon coffee cup in the window, the Mediterranean decorations, the smell of saffron and coffee beans. It just feels like there’s creativity–and magic–in the air.
Creativity is like magic. You are creating something out of nothing. It becomes real and sometimes takes on a life of its own.
Then I thought about this year and everything I’ve put out into the world. I started my writing coach business, wrote and published an eBook on writing that 1,000 people have downloaded, and helped two clients write and publish their books. Check them out:
When I look at my year like this, I am amazed at what I’ve accomplished. I created magic. I don’t know about you but I’m so hard on myself about what I haven’t done that I tend to forget what I have done. Of course there is always MORE you can do. It will probably be like that forever but do you ever really take the time to look at and congratulate yourself for what you have done?
During this holiday see if you can steal some time to yourself and make a list of everything you have done. It doesn’t have to be anything monumental. You don’t even have to be finished with it either. The fact that you started something is good too. Then just allow yourself to feel that satisfaction of looking at your list and knowing you did it. You are pretty darn awesome if you really think about it. Give yourself some credit. You may not know it but you create magic too.
I love how at the beginning of a new year you feel that overwhelming sense of possibility. Like fresh snow no one has touched yet. It is perfect and beautiful with no blemishes. When I look at 2014, I am excited about teaching more people to write well so their messages, stories, and ideas can spread positivity to every part of our world. This is my mission in life now.
I will be launching an onine school called, POWW School…Power of Writing Well (and you are the first to hear about it). I want to take what we all had to suffer through in English 101 and make it fun. Grammar is sexy! Building powerful sentences is an art that everyone can learn. Using words to foster positive change is what it’s all about. I have no idea how I am going to do it but I know it’s what I gotta do. The how isn’t my responsibility anyway. My job is to take care of what’s in front of me and the rest will happen.
When you look at 2014, what do you see? Do you see a year full of possibilities? Is there a goal or desire that is constantly tugging at your heart? I’ve learned that if you can be still you will feel that desire. It’s your magic calling to you telling you it’s time to get up and do something. I challenge you, dear writer, to find your magic and release it to the world in 2014. It’s there just waiting for you to find it.
