Don’t Listen to Anything or Anyone

November 17, 2016

Unless you’ve been living on a remote island somewhere in the middle of the South Pacific (by the way the middle of the ocean is a place called Point Nemo), you know that the world was shocked on November 8, 2016 when Donald Trump became the President Elect of the USA. I was pretty outspoken before the election about how I felt about this possibility, as some of you may have been too. Then it actually happened. I went dark for a day and during that time I had a revelation.

I’m talking a serious, full-on, come-to-Jesus revelation.

Why? Because it’s all bull shit. Excuse the language but it really is crap. All the riots, the protests, the calling each other racist or liberal, the pointing fingers, the fighting…it’s all a WASTE OF TIME AND ENERGY. It is getting us no where but sick and upset.

I don’t know about you but I was in a state of anxiety prior to and right after the election. I thought the world was going to come to an end (and I used to make fun of the people who thought that with Y2K and in December 2012 with the Mayan calendar stuff). But guess what? We are all still here. We still have jobs, children, families, and lots of things to do.

Don’t get me wrong here. There are shitty things going on all around us. People are in a lot of pain. No matter what you believe about our planet and the climate, bizarre changes are happening right before our eyes. It’s not smart to ignore all this crap.

But here’s the thing…unless you are Oprah or you have the flexibility to go out and become an activist you can end up feeling depressed and hopeless about the world today. It’s overwhelming. That’s exactly how I felt at 1:35 a.m. on November 9 watching the election results before I had my revelation.

Right after I decided to not listen to anything or anyone any more I meditated for about 20 minutes. A small, quiet voice whispered, become the change you want to see in the world. Spread light, love, and positive energy…but first start with yourself.

This was my heart speaking. I hadn’t heard it for so long I almost forgot that I had this ability to tap deep within to hear what is true, what will always be true. I began practicing loving kindness meditations for myself. The veil of darkness started to lift and I was able to share my light with others. I still am. See, you need to NOT listen to anything or anyone any more AND THEN LISTEN TO YOUR HEART. The only way to do that is to get quiet and sometimes to get quiet you have to deal with all the yucky, crappy, depressing stuff and clear it all away otherwise you won’t be able to hear your heart.

The world is hurting and desperately needs you to do this very important and very hard work. Stop listening to people who have agendas, who want you to go out and fight against some evil or fight for some good because the real work is right in front of you. It is in your very own heart. Listen to the small, quiet voice that needs to be heard so you can spread light, love, and positive energy. This is the only thing that will help us all heal.

Here’s a post-election loving kindness meditation you can practice right now:
